Former head coach of Westerville Middle School Team to take the Reins
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Westerville North Girls Lacrosse team announced today the hiring of Chip Walston as its new head coach.
Walston, a Westerville resident, is the past coach of the Westerville Middle Schools girls lacrosse team. Before that, he coached the girl’s lacrosse team at St. Paul’s Middle School in Westerville and before that, their boy’s team and youth teams.
"Chip not only brings several years of coaching experience but also patience and maturity to a young team,” said Rick Matsumoto, president of the North girl’s team. “We can't wait for the 2012 season to start."
“I am very excited about coaching the Westerville North girls’ lacrosse team this season,” said Walston. “Assistant Coach Abby Breneman and I will do everything we can to provide a positive experience for the girls where every player can improve their skills. We want them to look forward to playing alongside their teammates and to be excited about returning to play lacrosse year after year. Our emphasis will be on solid, fundamental lacrosse skills and teamwork and to build a foundation for girls’ lacrosse for years to come.”
Also joining coaches Walston and Breneman will be Morgan Goddard, a former goalie for the Westerville North girls lacrosse team.
Walston is married with two kids, a son and a daughter, who are both students at Westerville Central High School. Yes, his daughter plays lacrosse for Central and it will be a tense evening for the Walston’s when they are on opposing sides of the field at the North-Central game next year.
“We had a long talk about me coaching one team and my daughter playing on another and bottom line, we’ll get through it but we’ll be glad when it’s over,” said Walston.
A native of San Diego, California, Walston is a retired naval helicopter pilot having served in the Navy for 30 years on active duty and volunteers much of his time for community related activities.
